This refreshing balm features eucalyptus essential oil and eucalyptus leaves infused in our blend of nourishing oils and beeswax. Eucalyptus is actually not native to California and is, in fact, considered an invasive species since it uses precious resources native plants need to thrive. While it may seem odd that we would feature such a plant, juxtaposed against some of our other, purely native plant balms, we feel it's important to educate about what plants are native and which are not. The truth is, Eucalyptus arrived out west from Australia in the mid 1800s and now grows like wild, especially on the central coast in Morro Bay and Montaña de Oro. These towering trees with silky smooth bark are seen as a symbol of California to many. We see it as our core mission to promote the planting and protection of native California plants, but it is also quite useful to know the medicinal uses and health properties of non-native plants (even invasive ones) that are here to stay. Eucalyptus has incredible cleansing properties for the lungs and nasal passages. We use this balm as a natural vapo rub when we have a chest cold or allergies. Also lovely and cooling on sore hands after a day in the garden.
